There are several ways for a child to express himself and perhaps, even more, ways to acquire knowledge regarding everyday life. According to Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligence, individuals are capable of understanding and mastering most profound areas. Therefore, the theory of multiple intelligence urges modern-day teachers to adopt a creative and fresh approach to learning. This is essential, considering that each child has a unique way in which he perceives knowledge. Everyone has their talents, but if we judge a bird by its ability to swim underwater, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is incapable.
The following example can illustrate the importance of adopting multiple intelligence theory in classroom education.
Take the case of a teenage boy whose IQ is 115. His more than average score allowed him to enroll in a real institution. He’s talented with words and the first one to help out others in the class. Having his array of talents, he actively participates in extra co-curricular activities. However, he finds it difficult to adapt the school’s regular teaching program. Test patterns followed in schools prevented him from rising past the bottom marks scored in a classroom. Despite this, due to his industrious nature, he didn’t give up and continued to work hard. However, unable to perform better, he failed twice in his grade. Resultantly, one day he dropped out of school with a battered self-confidence.
Literature and history teacher suggest that the student had the ‘wrong abilities.’ However, science, arts and PE educators, having a broader mindset believe that the school administration gave him ‘wrong tests.’

This is where the theory of multiple intelligence comes into existence. Gardner strongly believes that the traditional education system narrows down one’s view on information. It must be replaced with modern, skill-based practices to mobilize a pupil’s full range of human intelligence.
Only half of today’s teachers were lucky to have a successful experience as students. After mastering the requirements of drab subjects like math and history, they rethink lessons and separate units. Such teachers develop a research-based approach towards the issue. By roping in every possible way of learning, from interviews, class discussions and articles to projects, activities, and trivia, they design several methods to measure progress.
There are several students around us like the boy in our example. He couldn’t demonstrate his ability through traditionally devised methods. Gardner’s multiple intelligence theory advises educators to transcend these boundaries. It says a teacher shouldn’t make a student think like a student, but get them think like a scientist, historian or accomplished mathematician. If the education system cannot change the way a person thinks, then the elementary school is just a waste of time.
There are incredible ways to bend all sorts of information to make them more productive, such as story writing, PowerPoint presentations, and webinars. Students cannot just thrive on computation and literacy. They need to learn how to apply educational principles for solving real-world problems. That is what the primary goal of classroom education should be, and multiple intelligence provides educators with appropriate tools to meet this challenge.
Multiple Intelligence theory originated from a book “FRAMES OF MIND.”
1983 written by HOWARD GARDNER who is well-known developmental psychologist known for the concept of MultipleIntelligence. He conveyed from his book that Intelligence is too restrictive as the only IQ is measured, but there are more
“Intelligence” which got neglected Gardner thinks “Everything can be taught in more than one way,” according to his theory people can learn from various Intelligence rather than focus on one. As various people are identical &different from each other in every aspect of life so why learns from only one method this is not fair for anyone.
So he proposed these nine different kinds of Intelligence
- VERBAL/LINGUISTIC Intelligence
- MATHEMATICAL/LOGICAL Intelligence
- VISUAL/SPATIAL Intelligence
- BODILY/KINESTHETIC Intelligence
- MUSICAL Intelligence
- INTERPERSONAL Intelligence
- INTRAPERSONAL Intelligence
- NATURALISTIC Intelligence
- EXISTENTIAL Intelligence

Always admire company of books & give them high importance.Interested in word games, talk shows, etc. were lots of words are used, don’t skip any chance of increasing vocabulary, wants to share stories, thinks in words also likes to discuss and debates.
